6 Characteristics of Communication Manager 7

When you finish reading this post ‘Avaya CM 7 Quick Overview ‘, you have a better understanding in features and components in which Avaya has incorporated to the new version of Communication Manager 7, as well as security enhancements for SIP communication between endpoints and media gateways.

Here are the six characteristics=

  • 1.- Accessibility
  • 2.- Media Server
  • 3.- Security Enhancements
  • 4.- TLS End-to-End SIP call indicator
  • 5.- SIP Phone Service Observing
  • 6.- Telephony Features

1.- Accessibility

Avaya CM 7 System Platform is been replaced with Appliance Virtualization Platform through a customized ESXi VMWare Hypervisor supporting a SDM (Solution Deployment Manager) Client allowing us road-engineers to deploy, and upgrade virtual machines without the need of the vSphere Console.

ASA App similar feature and selection – Avaya CM 7 provides webpages with the same look as the Avaya Site Administration app, allowing the administrator to configure features in the same manner as if he/she was operating a legacy admin console. This is beneficial for troubleshooting, implementation and maintaining. Avaya calls this CM Command Line Structure.

2.- Media Server

Avaya CM 7 is also coming out with the full option for the Media Server implementation which replaces H.248 Gateways generating system’s tones, collecting digits, RTP media streams, among other features. The Media Server can also be deployed as a Virtual Appliance, Turnkey hardware appliance through DELL R220 / HP DL360s, and PVI (Platform Vendor Independence.). And the Media Server can also be enrolled in SMGR.

3.- Security Enhancements

Avaya CM 7 introduces the security enhancement of encryption AES-256 cypher to media streams (voice and video) utilizing Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTCP RFC-3711) implemented via the IP Network Region Forms.

4.- TLS End-to-End SIP call indicator

The handset icon will show an unsecured connection whenever conferencing a non-secure endpoint, otherwise, it displays a pot-lock as secured connection between both SIP endpoints. To accomplish a secured connection you must implement SIP-TLS link in Session Manager.

5.- SIP Phone Service Observing

This feature allows group supervisors to monitor agents (stations, LoginIDs or VDN) as well as talk or coach call center agents. To accomplish this action you need to configure a ‘sip-sobsrv button to a 96xx SIPCC or Avaya One-X.

6.- Telephony Features

Call Park Pickup – By pressing the feature key plus extension (Originator) you can retrieve the call parked. Per the documentation an alert is generated though out the Pickup Group to alert the members that a call is parked waiting to be answered.

IP Phones Triple Tone – For those members of a Pickup Group a triple beep or tone is sent after the timer expires (15 secs).

Call Type Analysis – Avaya CM 7 is also adding the ability of entering  + CTA digits to allow the translation of international codes. This is manipulated in the CTA Form.

Group Page Delay – It allows the system admin to change the Page delay timer.

Avaya CM 7 and IP Office 9.1 Inter-PBX Calls  – For security and Toll Fraud reasons SIP communication has been enhanced to allow Session Manager to handle the communication by securing it through an Adaptation Module.

Other features include=

  • Deny PRI / H.323 Trunk Call Based on Calling Line ID
  • Allow direct input of Route Pattern for SIP station routing (OPTIM)
  • Location Based Routing with EC500
